Also winterizing in Central Valley California

Remove cold beer, remove Gin and Tonic fixins, replace with winter wine and eggnog and brandy. Back under shelter, install solar convective loop collector in south window. That about sums it up and check all systems as ongoing preventative maint.Cheers to all Tim

Hi, I have to disagree with you. I was born in Southern California and except for two years in the Army I spent my entire life here. 61 -2 =59 years spent in Southern California. We have four seasons: Fires, Floods, Earthquakes, and Riots.

Oh, I forgot. Winterizeing; I closed all the vents, closed all the windows, Locked the door, drained all the tanks, parked it in my drive way, and once a month I put the battery charger on to keep my batteries from catching a cold. Burrrrrrrrrrr It got down as low as 47 degrees, once!

Winter without at least some snow just doesn't seem right. You must feel just horrible with your windshield scraper, snow brush, and snow shovel all collecting dust. I'll bet you even got cheated by your TV salesperson and didn't get the block heater option. So many times I've read advertisements for "Loaded" vehicles from CA for sale and when you talk to them you find out they aren't in fact loaded, they don't have a block heater .

If you are able to get those rivets to do what you tell them please pass on the necessary steps to the rest of us. I could use that technique on more than rivets in my shop this year.

And congrats on the RM status. Do you get preferred parking at events now?

Congratulations on your Rivet Master status. This is a great post and I enjoyed the cryptic remarks about winterizing. My problem this year is that the temperatures are staying in the 50's, no winter yet.

Cold here today. I built the first fire in the fireplace today.....no, not in the Tradewind. The weather people in Sacramento say that I we may wake up to some snow in the morning. I was wondering when that HOT July would end.

Thank you all

For your kind words on me attaining the status of Rivet Master.

My wife made me a cape and hat and yes I now have preffered parking at all events at my home.

Everyday I go out to the garage and command my rivets. I am attempting have them perform tricks and feats of amazement. So far things are not going well. I have tried ordering, demanding, explaining, begging and showing them the tricks I want them to do. Maybe I need more rivets on my cape so they know I am THE Rivet Master.

Maybe you need a new technique for the little guys!...ever try calling them: 'rivet, rivet, rivet'?..maybe that'll work

Congrats on 500+ posts

Milo-

Thanks for advice on winterizing.. We too added an extra fleece blankie, and tested the furnace just to be sure it is still operational.. Pretty much winterized for now, though I can admit that 8 years ago we "lost" the Thetford toilet valve to a crack during a rare cold night when temps plummeted below 30 degrees, here in northern Calif... (Not as cold as Guy in northern CA mountains...)

As for Rivet Mastering, just be sure never to confuse "Rivet Master" with "Wife Master"... Consequences could be harmful...

The problem with trying to effectively order rivets about is that the sound is much like ribbit so the lil fellers (and feller'ettes) could be confused. They don't have the legs to hop. You may need to whistle. I think the 7 dwarves had the right idea....although I don't remember seeing any Airstreams in that movie. Must have been an oversight on Walt's part.

Now, for those of you who wish an education on the proper tools for winter use just let us know. I'm sure there are a few folks on the Forum who have the joys of snow close at hand and who can share their techniques and effective use of these survival tools.

I think the best winter tool I have found yet is a map of the southern States

Grab your sunglasses and your Suntan lotion....

Our Lower and Mid Deserts are an excellant choice as is the Ocean...

There's the infamous Slab City away down south...

Or Death Valley but I recomend the Panamint Valley next door...

Of course Palm Springs...

Or if you prefer the Beaches...

San Diego or the wine country of Temecula is also just around the corner...
