Winterizing in Maryland

Hello everyone. I live in Frederick County, MD. The guy who used to winterize my AS has given up his business. I'm looking for any reliable shops that are closer than Colonial (3.5 hours). Thanks

Have you considered doing it yourself?

Yes, but I can't do service work where it is stored.

Any competent RV shop should be able to do it IMO. What about these?

Good luck.

If you would have to take it to a shop, why not take it yourself to a campground and winterize it there? It sounds harder than it is. You can do it.

Then write in and tell us about it!

Beckley's is fine for winterizing. Not certain for anything else.

Honestly, you need to go to Colonial or Out of Doors Mart for complicated work you can not do yourself.

I am in Howard County, if you'd like to come by and take advantage of my air compressor you are welcome to do so. If you want to go so far as pumping AF through the water pump though you would be on your own.

Hi

One "feature" of most Maryland State parks is that they don't have full hookups available. It's not a 100% thing, but they are a bit hard to find. Without water / power / sewer the winterizing process is a bit cumbersome.

Hi, Bob.

I use the method of running the pink stuff through a water pump bypass kit (Camping World, for cheapo $$).

you don't need water, electricity or sewer (provided you dumped your tanks after your last trip). Just your onboard 12-volt system. It takes about 1.5 gals of pink stuff (because I am profligate with it) and you're golden.

Hi

You really should blow the lines out with air before putting in the pink stuff. If you just run it in with the water pump, there are parts of the system that don't get protected. In addition you need to run a *lot* of it (like 5 gallons) to be sure you don't dilute it.

Before we get into "I do it and it works". There are examples of people just opening the low point drains to "winterize" (and still get away with it ....).

Drain all the water, blow the lines out, and fill with pink stuff using the 12v pump and a bypass. No need to dump anything. Probably not even considered maintenance unless dumping 6 gallons from the hw tank is a problem. If so drive it off the property. I literally did mine in a truck stop 2 days ago!
