Any thoughts as to whether the window coverings should be open or closed when we close up the trailer for the winter?

I close mine to minimize fading of everything else.

I not only close the curtains, but have made sun blockers out of reflectix with a cardboard backer to keep from sun damage. My best theft deterrent, other than several locks, is the fact that I store it on a friend's farm. A thief would have to travel up the drive past 3 occupied family residences, none of which are more than 20 yards from the drive. I figger someone is always at home between 3 families!
