Winter storage battery charging

New to airstream family. 2015 16' Bambi. Concerning the master on/off switch (not the breaker), will the batteries trickle charge with the switch in the off position with the trailer plugged in. Gordon

Yes...are you able to ck the AS regularly?

I would recommend only plugging in when the batteries need it...Just MO. 😂👍

If you are referring to the use/store switch, the batteries will NOT charge with the switch in the store position. However, the batteries will continue to discharge with the switch in the store position as the switch will not turn off current to your propane detector, and maybe a few other things depending on how they did your wiring at the factory the day they built your trailer.

Airstream NW said that it would charge either way, no matter what position it's in. They also told me I could leave it plugged in all the time. I tend to believe you. Thanks for the info. They have informed me incorrectly in the past.

No consistency 👎

This is us...
Battery switch... on
Use/store...store mode/off

We are charging when on shore power in store mode.

Why?
Cold won't damage them.

If you store where can leave plugged in, disconnect both black cables, connect a small battery Tender, temp compensated, plugged inside, cable snaked through cable hole in floor, plug in a few Pest Sonic zappers inside. Then all AC/DC loads work when you visit, batteries stay charged and freeze protected, and you are ready to tow with two battery terminal connections.

can you show a picture of the back of the switches..?? on my 05 classic i only have one switch which turns off power to the buss bar except the LP det. which i remove the 1 amp fuse when I store during summer to prevent battery drain.

In winter i remove the batteries and put in garage where i can put a trickle charge on them as needed..

if you have a solar system and you park in area with sun, no need to remove the batteries as they get charge or floated every day the sun shines.

one word of caution on keeping the unit plugged in on shore power for LONG periods.. If you do not have a 3 or better 4 stage charger that might not be a good idea.
most all AS before 2018? have a single stage charger that can cook your batteries ruining them over time. (most of them are set at 13.6/7 v which is too high for long term use.. most batteries manf say 13.5 for long term float. )

....snip "can you show a picture of the back of the switches..??"

The switch on the right is the use/store.
Left, battery disconnect.
The two red wires with the black insolation come directly from the Classic's two batteries, then up to the pos buss bar.
Neg buss is located on the left side.
