whew...just got off the phone with the steel folks (from the link I provided earlier)...they priced me up a 16 w x 40 l x 13 h structure....8 inch steel posts every 8 feet...topped off by what he said was about 22 gauge steel sheets as the roof...

Price tag quoted $6,138....

Im not surprised I guess...but that was a bit more high ball than I had hoped

I would need to wait till next year to cover my AS with that product...unless I guess I financed it, in which case I could get into it by november, pay a small payment, then pay off the balance in march (when I will have the cash flow to pay it off).

I think I am going to talk to my contractor about fabricating me something in the same ballpark....perhaps with wood and a roof similar to what others on this site have constructed....

You should be able to get a complete building, not just a car port for that.

that is what I said...I went to a couple sites that send stuff to you pre-fab...or come and build and it was half that price.

Of course they were quick to state how their materials are of higher quality 8inch steel beams every 8 feet, and 22 guage steel sheets...

But I think its a bit steep...I am guessing my contractor can build it with some quality materials at a lower cost....we shall see...

I do however like the aesthetic of these steel covers...but not for 6K perhaps...ouch....

Why not a simple wood post and beam structure? You can do it yourself over a few weekends for a lot less money than that steel thing.

I don't know what lumber costs down in Alabama, but up here, by my very rough estimation, you could just get Hemlock 4 x 4's and 1 x 6 boards straight from the mill for about 2k, then build your own.

If you've already got a concrete pad, you've got the foundation ready.

Concrete pad starting project with my brother next week - only will pay cost of concrete and a few other materials - guessing 1200 bucks - ballpark

I am not a carpenter----so I'm afraid that I would be looking at paying my contractor to build a wood one - hmmm not sure how much he would charge me

I'm not a carpenter either, but over the years I've built tons of stuff.

Raised beds, a playhouse for the kids, barn board siding on my garage, that sort of stuff. I've found that with lumber cut to size and the relevant fasteners much can be achieved even by people like myself who had no real idea where to start.

If that's not an option, do you have Amish or Mennonite people living nearby? Traditionally, they often do great carpentry work.

If labor is included that is not a bad price. My 18 x 36 shop building out back was $7200. I financed it on one of them 12 months no interest deals and paid 12 payments of $600. I didn't know at the time I would be getting a trailer, or I would have had a different building. Now, at some point, I will be erecting another big building back there (or in the front) for the trailer.
