We are getting estimates on a grid-tied solar array for our home energy usage. Before deciding on a ground mounted system, I thought I would ask the forum if anyone has designed a structure to support solar panels that was also shelter for an Airstream? In my case, a 26' Overlander.
I saw a set of photos from Rgentum that are inspiring my idea.
I've seen solar panels as a carport (not high enough for an Airstream).
And then there's the KOA in Tucson, where a whole section of the facility (maybe two dozen camp sites) is covered by a solar shelter, way high up in the air.
At least in CA, a solar installation is supposed to be property tax exempt. Worth checking before you build, but it is an excellent idea to get the rig out of the sun and optimize the utility of the structure. Orientation of the panels to get most sun exposure is key to an effective installation. Most solar installs are not total coverage, so that may be a concern. Pat
There are companies that focus on solar “awnings” and the like, checkout Lumos solar for some inspiration...though you could skip the bifacial panels to save cost. There is nothing that prevents 100% solar panel coverage of a roof like that, and you could get a nice tax incentive depending on your locale and the political winds.
