Shrink wrapping an Airstream

Has anyone ever shrink wrapped an airstream trailer for winter storage They cover boats with that all the time . It is held tight against the boat and doesn't move but you could also put foam rubber on some spots of the Air Stream then shrink wrap it so the plastic cover wouldn't chafe against the side of the trailer

How much heat is used to cause the shrink wrap to shrink? Would the heat cause damage to the Airstream?

Just the thought of someone going over "Cloudsplitter" with a heat gun scares me.

POI...there is a warning about leaving our entrance door open when the furnace is running as the exhaust will damage the clearcoat...nice design a what?

Maybe someone has firsthand experience.

Any moisture sealed in would be my worry, filiform corrosion is the worst.

We shrink wrap large medical equipment for shipping storage.

We use Buffalo Shrink Wrap

The heat involved is minimal to what is being wrapped.

We have a lp tank with a torch end for shrinking

Use the special tape to seal the seams.

Ware gloves to tap down the seams as you heat them.

This is from my last move...

I am looking at a goldline cover that claims to have a waterproof exterior and have a soft underside . I asked them to send me a swatch of it for inspection . I have old cars and I have one cover that is fliece lined and a canvas outside . Don't know if it leaks or not because the cars are in a garage .
As long as a cover doesn't move around in the wind , I would think most covers would be OK if they did not rub against the exterior surface in the wind .

IMHO....RONG

I would never cover an an AS stored outdoors.

Water underneath and wind=corrosion and scratches.
Our 63 spent six weeks covered and had some of each.

Our Ford stays indoors also....California Car Covered.

I must admit that I am new at this game however one reason I chose the AS was because of its longevity reputation and I suspect most of the old ones were probably not kept indoors.

I believe we worry to much about protecting the outside from scratches and dents especially when we store the AS. I say this because I normally camp where there are falling branches, twigs, acorns (worse then Hail?) etc and yet we are not concerned about the potential scratches and dents that they might cause. And don't forget the road debris that is thrown up from other moving vehicles when towing.

I say do the basic winter prep and sit by the fireside with a glass of brandy and enjoy the memories of the days spent camping
