Newbie and the Blizzard

I am a newbie, we along with 50 million other people are getting a blizzard, we are expecting a mere 24". My 2006 19' Bambi is in driveway. i have unplugged the cord that ran across the driveway, I put step up and tilted whole trailer towards the back for run off. I have a three step ladder ready for the roof and practised tonight. I felt all kinds of stuff up there, that Icould not see. Is it safe to gently get snow all roof? Does all snow have to come off? My snow rake is made of foam, so not to scratch. What else can I do to protect myself and my investment? I have no place to put trailer inside. Do dealers go around and get snow off all their inventory?. sbb

I cant believe any conceivable snow load would be a factor for your airstream roof. Let it snow and when nature is done, rake off the easy stuff and dont worry about the rest.

Living at 7,600 feet altitude in the Colorado Rockies, I would be more concerned with how to stay warm if the power goes out. Your Bambi will survive 24"+.

Weight of 12" snow load is at most about 20 lbs/sq. ft., so 24" of snow is 40 lbs per sq. ft. This won't be a problem for your Airstream, since they regularly take the load of people walking (ok, crawling) on the roofs, which is more weight over a smaller area.

We often get dumps here in Montana and I generally very gently brush (very soft bristled broom) the snow off of our investment, too. If the snow is really light, you can use a leaf blower...

Unfortunately the snow will be very very heavy for the OP here in NJ.

The snow should not be a worry. We routinely get more than that. Of more concern would be the wind associated with a blizzard, which could shift your Bambi if the wheels are not securely chocked.

...Is the damage you could do to the skin as you try to remove the snow.
And/or the damage to yourself when you fall off the ladder.
Your Airstream will do fine. Just make sure you are not parked beneath any trees that could break and crush it.

We've all seen (unfortunately) pics of ASes rolled over. All of them I have seen supported their own weight (with some deformation) after flipped. This is the beauty of a semi-monocoque build. Curved bows and double skins are great at load bearing.

Of course as Colin pointed out on my moonraker thread, all bets are off if you are in the middle of a restoration and your interior skins and endcaps are out. In that case the snow needs to come off the roof!
