We rescued our beloved Phoenix, who was stored in a climate controlled /heated indoor storage facility. The Phoenix survived a 15 million dollar facility fire. Only one other trailer survived the same fire---another Airstream.

We plan to rebuild our barn to house our AS, once we win the lottery, that is!

The first two years I owned my Airstream I stored it indoors (non-climate controlled). It was perfect as I also did quite a bit of work on it. When the owner sold the facility I had to move and went with outdoor under canopy at a facility. This worked well for me but it was $175 a month. I lived in an HOA so there were few options. It was guarded and had wash station, ice, electric, etc. Very nice facility. We moved to St Augustine and while there are MANY RV storage places here, most were in a field open to the sun and rain. I found a facility that offered canopy at $228 a month with electric as an option. Expensive. It has washing, dumping, guards, etc., it is just so expensive. I do believe that shade is important even if there is humidity. The canopy is industrial and I am well under it.

My personal opinion:

Best is an RV garage that is temp controlled at your primary residence.

Next is similar close to home.

Next is a non-temp controlled building on your property.

Next is similar close to home.

Least best is external storage. At home it's convenient. Remote is only good if it is at your favorite vacation location. Pat

Outside storage sucks, no doubt, but for us at present, it was either outside storage or no RV. I have OCD when it comes to keeping my vehicles clean, so when our AS salesperson told us storage covers could not be used on Airstreams, we put our possible purchase on hold. Research led me to Cal Mark Cover Co. in Oxnard, CA. After several conversations with them, looking at the fabric sample, and seeing the detailed AS specific dimension sheet, I decided to go for it. Even made a road trip with our AS to their shop to check out their facility and pick up our cover. Have used it since May and so far so good. It fits like a glove with no wind flap what so ever. Taken off and on three times. I feel our AS is protected from the sun, dust, and bird crap. High humidity, snow, or ice are not anything I have to deal with, and rain only in winter, so that helps. Will report again after a year of use. David
