I know, I've heard lots of horror stories too. Not that I'm telling anyone they SHOULD do it. It's just my own experience. I won't put ropes around it again. I just buffed out the mark from the rope (took me about 15 minutes) and she's good to go.

Same here.

Only thing I'd cover is the AC unit.

What sort of fabric are these Ebay covers made of. I have a car cover that is made out of some sort of paper like fabric that is soft and repels water and dries pretty fast. The biggest problem I had with it, is that the neighborhood cats would use it as a scratching post and rip it apart.

That's pretty much what it is. It has vents to let it breathe. I just saw some rain pants at Bass Pro that are the same fabric. No cats at my house, so I don't know what to tell you about being a scratching post ( other than get a dog)!!!!

After reading all of the posts, the items of consensus seem to be:
  1. DO NOT use the inexpensive plastic tarps. Since they do not breath, they will mildew.
  2. Any loose tarp sections can blow in wind and cause wear.
  3. Metal carports are the best but not an option for everyone
The jury seems to be out on the higher quality fabric type covers (ADCO and Calmark).

Certainly I understand that SOME dirt under the cover can cause some wear. I think you have to look at the lesser of the two evils. The sun and rain can do extensive damage and cause interior fading and degradation.

I am currently considering the Calmark cover for my Argosy 20.

I use an ADCO cover for my Landyacht SO 30 RV and its makes a huge difference. It keeps the inside of the coach MUCH cooler. I do have concerns about the outer skin because my coach does have a full body paint and where I store it, its tremendously dusty. I live in Florida and have had no problem with mildew under the cover. Its my opinion but the sun and rain cause more damage than some wear.

I had just ordered an Ebay cover and had a call into Airstream as to how to remove the radio antenna that the cover wouldn't fit over. AS said they do not recommend covering as it will damage the skin by the wind flapping the fabric and as the AS is a 4 season RV. So the cover is going back just as soon as it gets here!

I learned the hard way not to cover. Don't, you'll regret it.

I bit the bullet! I finally have indoor storage for my coach. I did not enjoy getting that cover on and off every time I wanted to go camping which is about twice a month. Another issue was walking on the roof. Airstream also does not advise putting a cover over your rig. So I started searching for indoor storage and found something. Needless to say I have a brand new ADCO tyvek cover in the box because my previous one ripped from the wind and got a replacement from camping world.

I also learned the same lesson.
At least where we live......windy, and or cold with snow and freezing rain, not worth taking the chance.

But it may be that first hand lessons are the ones best learned.

Yip covering was a mistake. I’m so happy to have found indoor storage. It’s made a world of difference and every campground we go to people cannot believe the coach is a 2004. It has been indoors it’s entire life except for 1 year when I tried to save money and covered it outdoors. Sun [emoji274] is really harsh on equipment especially down here in FL.
