Hail in the Forecast... do I just cross my fingers and pray?

Hey so there is hail in the forecast tonight, and I'm wondering whether there is anything I can do to prevent damage. I do not have indoor storage for the trailer, but I do have some time before the storms are supposed to roll in. Any suggestions?

A really big tarp from your hardware store over the roof, well tied down.

I wouldn't put a tarp over my airstream -- you get stormy winds moving it around and you will damage your clearcoat and or your roof coating. Pretty hard to secure one well enough to to prevent any movement...t

I would rather have scuffed clearcoat than dents.

Well.... I have it parked in a wide open space to prevent limbs and debris hitting it, and I have my fingers crossed that there will be no hail.

I did call my insurance company and they confirmed I'm covered...

Here's hoping!

Go park under a bridge for the night.

The same storm came through here around 5PM. The hail was marble size, it sounded like ball bearings hitting the MH, fortunately they were too small to make dents.
I did have a good size tree branch come down and miss it by about 6 feet

Go find a car wash that has an oversized bay for washing trucks, go there, and wash your Airstream until the weather abates.

Wayne, my trailer's about 30 minutes away (having toilet replaced) but my understanding is that there were only short periods of small (pea to nickel sized) hail. So, here's hoping! I'll probably truck down there tomorrow to have a look.

Part of me wonders if because it's on a dealer's lot, their insurance would cover any damage? (I did take photos before I left her there!)

Very unlikely that dealer's insurance would cover any damage not caused by dealer. I used to own a repair shop and our Garagekeepers insurance specifically excluded anything outside our control. I'm sure that a dealer's insurance would be similar. We get a lot more hail here in Texas and that's why I invested in a good metal carport next to the house. Carolina Carports does installs all over the country and they are not that expensive.

I just went out and took a closer look up top and all is OK, Also my 4 solar panels are undamaged. I wonder what size hail will shatter the panels?

I would rather be under trees than not during hail. The branches will deflect or slow down the hail and lessen the potential for damage. The small branches that get knocked out of the trees will not do damage. But, if the hail is accompanied by significant wind, a large branch can break loose that might do damage.

Happy for you that the hail was not worse. My '67 Caravel was in a hail storm (quarter size) a few weeks ago that damaged the aluminum hood on the BMW X5 TV. Inspecting the Caravel a few days later reveal significant damage to the homemade rock deflector that was in the open position (no biggie as I was about to replace the aluminum skin with polycarbonate anyway) and to the fridge roof vent cover. No other apparent damage that might not have already been there...lucked out.

Good luck. We've luckily managed to evade hail in the last few weeks of severe weather in SW Missouri. I had my Airstream in covered storage up to April 30 but figured it would be away from storage more than inside storage due to maintenance activities and planned trips so cancelled on May 1. Maybe not a smart move this time of year in our neck of the woods.

I have heard of some hail damage horror stories about coverage.
It seems that some policies only cover hail damage if there has been penetration thru the roof, open holes, broken glass. I don't know the specifics, about roof vents, if they qualify as an actual roof.
I did have a roof vent get smashed by snow falling from a overhanging tree, I run Max-airs for more protection over the thin plastic vent caps.

This dent is before my ownership, but I think it is Vermont snow/ice related

Outside the box, but not a bad idea.

Hail storms move fast, get under a shelter if possible.
My first thought was a couple sleeping bags laid flat and strapped down.

I Hate hail...

It's hard to do anything once it starts. Someone recommended pool noodles, or plumbing insulator foam tubes, on the roof then a tarp so that it holds the tarp off of the skin. I guess you'd have to tie them on first then put the tarp on. The only way it would do any good is if you stored it like that.
Now we just leave the Pendleton in a 10x30 mini storage. It is one hairy backing in job, so it's not a good drop and go option but at least it's covered

Hail is common here in the west. Our airstream has been through two marble sized hail storms with no damage.
