Cool getting ready for the freeze

that time of year again.

this time i added a little gadget to make adding antifreeze a little easier.

just a little three way valve....

i'll go through all the steps of winterizing for newcomers to cold climate airstreaming.

here are the supplies.....

make sure the valve...

is the right size and faces the proper direction.

otherwise you will not be able to draw antifreeze into the system.

installed

here is what it looks like installed...

i used teflon tape on the threads, although not needed because of rubber o rings in the connections.

i used it anyway because of the plastic to brass connections.

at this point...

i go around and open all the faucets and blow the water out.

after i am sure the system is purged, i shut off the air and close all valves and drains.

then i start the pump and again go around opening all the faucets and low point drains. not forgetting the shower wand and the hand spray on the toilet!

don't forget the drains!

after the entire system has been filled with rv antifreeze i add a couple of gallons to all the drain traps.

i also wipe up any excess in the shower or sinks to prevent staining or collecting dust.

don't forget your outside faucet if you have one!

that's about it, when finished i put the diverter valve to "normal" position, cap the opening, remove the hose and store in a zip loc baggie.

also i add a little antifreeze to the water strainer, there always seems to be a little sitting in there. the air cannot reach it because it is on the suction side of the pump.

also, the water filter element goes in a baggie too, stored in the house.

miller time!

Thumbs up Another excellent class!!

John,

Nice job! Since I've never had the need to winterize my trailer, I'll book mark this for future ref.

Mac

p.s. How many "Miller's" did it take to complete this job????
