Garage/Workshop

Wondered if anyone had plans/ideas for a good Garage/Workshop building to include an area for the Airstream.

Our neighbor across the street has a garage for his motor home, with workshop space attached. I'll see if I can take a couple of photos in the morning, if it's over being gloomy.

My wife & I live in a 40' X 70' metal building that I built myself. The 20' on the very back end (800 Sq. FT.) is a garage/workshop and storage space for the Airstream with a "pull through" drive way. Pull in on one side, pull out on the other. The rest is centrally heated and cooled (2000 sq. ft.) and consist of 2 bed rooms, 2 baths, a laundry room, a storage room and a great room with a kitchen, dinning area, and living area all in one. The hall goes down the middle and the back door leads right into the door of the Airstream which provides sleeping quarters for 4. (6 if needed.) and an extra bath room.

This storage/house solution sounds very interesting. Would you be willing to post a few pictures?

I think I have the best. I bought an Army surplus Building from Fort Sill. This was a training building designed of instructing Soldiers on weapon maintenance. It is 40 x 40 with a drive thru capability ....from in one side to out the other. When the weapon (airstream) is pulled in the doors at both sides can be closed. Where the Army had bleachers located on one side of the building...allowing the Soldiers to look down at the subject...I built a dividing wall...... on the lower half I have an apartment set up (could be an enclosed shop) and on the upper area of that structure I built in a reinforced floor. So I have a storage area and shop above the apartment that overlooks the Airstream (weapons) drive thru area.

We are looking at a building similar to this one. Ours will be 36' wide (3 12' bays) and either 40' or 60' long. It will have 3 bay doors on the one end. If we go with the 60' it will be to add an apartment on the one end. These are full steel buildings including the frame and are very sturdy. Ours will becoming from Carolina Structural.

My wife and I are building a new home as we speak, and one of my requirements was indoor space for our '65 Globetrotter. Since getting it in and out of the living room would have proven problematic, we settled on a detached garage with 10' doors (x 9' wide) ... Thankfully, even with an a/c unit, our trailer will fit perfectly. It's a beast of a garage, but I'd rather build too much rather than too little!

(Not sure why photos aren't attaching ... I'll add links for now.)

My RV parking with a 30'x40' shop behind it. I can park two 34' Motorhomes or Trailers side by side. I was lucky that the RV parking/shop came with a nice house as well

Hi Silver Bee:
This is about as in-expensive a way to go. Simple 30x40 pole barn 1/3 living-1/3 Trailer-1/3 Shop.
Pic's taken at different times of year (obviously).
I full time here and only on the worst days am I confined to the trailer with an electric heater (not running propane indoors unless I can get good cross ventilation) as I double insulated and run a infra-red heater that consumes 15 cents/hr in the barn.
Out back is future patio/r.v. pad which I'm just about finished with.
good luck

Finally finished ...

I haven't posted on this thread since last September, when we were just beginning construction on our house and garage. Here are a couple shots of our 20' Globetrotter inside the new garage ... We have a 30-amp plug in the wall, and used 10' doors (and a 12' ceiling) to ensure enough clearance. Couldn't be happier now that our Airstream is in out of the crazy North Texas weather (particularly now, during hail season).
