Frozen jug of pink stuff

Today it's -15 degrees (F) outside. I thought it would be a good day to recheck my ductwork modifications so I went out to the trailer.

I had an extra gallon jug of the pink RV antifreeze in the trailer, on the floor. I bought it from NAPA last fall. Freeze protection to -50, says so right on the bottle.

It was partially frozen.

Now it seems like this is a bad year for this kind of thing because I've had problems with windshield washer fluid freezeup which has never been a problem in the past. I wonder whether the manufacturers of these products are reformulating them for cost savings leaving the melting point higher than before.

I would caution those relying on the pink stuff that perhaps there might be something to be said for compressed air.

I have heard that RV antifreeze can turn to slush but will not freeze solid and burst pipes.

One of the reasons why they say "Do not dilute".

I have seen a NOTE on some jugs of the "pink stuff" that indicate it may form a "slush-like" mix, but it will not freeze solid to cause damage.

It's the store brand, Balkamp I think.

And yes it is slushy not solid.

That's probably fine for traps or something.

I wonder whether it might damage a sprayer, pump, or showerhead though.

Pink stuff will slush up, Don't know if it can freeze solid, but it will be slushy at - 20 degrees. I have seen it slushy but not frozen

Even if it can freeze at some temp. as long as it doesn't EXPAND in the process there would not be a problem,

I have never had a plumbing problem using the stuff in 40 years, but I have had problems from blowing out lines as one or 2 drops of water in a toilet valve can do it in

Water is a most unusual fluid, in that it expands when it freezes. That's why it's so hard on pipes. If I remember what I learned in high school science classes, other liquids don't do this. They get smaller when they freeze.

Hopefully, your antifreeze has very little water in it and mostly some other stuff.

I had some from Menards ,Brand ?. Frozen in Garage. Since that I Blow lines out after pumping thru pink stuff! Should have room to expand in P traps.
