Air compressor recommendation

Any particular model/maker of air compressor do people recommend?

This is for winterizing and tire inflation.

I would like it to be portable, and I think it would be nice to have both 12V and 120V.

Thanks,

Atsushi

From reading other posts here a lot of people use the VIAIR portable 450P. It is rather expensive. A similar model is available from harbor freight.

Both run off DC. Not aware of any that use both ac and dc power.

Search these forumns and I am sure you will find more info.

VIAIR makes other models not as expensive as their 450P models. I chose the 88p for under $75. The 450P has 1.80 cfm/150psi vs 1.47cfm/120psi of the 88p. I carry for emergencies. I use it more for inflating my bicycle tires. I also have a 2gal Craftsman air compressor. You can set the pressure you need and this is what I use to blow out my water lines using a quick connect fitting on my city water so I can keep constant pressure on the system. Now that I have a Honda generator I can use the Craftsman on the road.

I've noticed recently the Craftsman brand is chineese. While the paint is better quality, the basic compressor is similar to the Harbor Freight 2 and 3 gallon models which sell regularly for around $39 w/coupons.

I have both the pancake and the "hot-dog" tank models. The 3 gal hot dog is 110 volt only but uses less than 400 watts which my small inverter in the truck runs just fine. The compressor provides 3 gals of 100 psi air which quickly services tires, toys, etc that the smaller compressors take 45 minutes to fill.
