2012 FC 25FB: Winterizing: "toilet-flushing valve"?

Hi All,

Question regarding our 2012 25FB...

In the 2012 Flying Cloud Owner's Manual it says in the winterization section (page F-9)

5. While water is draining from the system, open and flush the toilet-flushing valve. Depress hand spray lever while holding the spray head down inside the bowl. Depress hand spray thumb button on the telephone shower head while holding down inside the tub and drain all water from flexible hose.

Anyone know what the "toilet-flushing valve" or the "hand spray lever" for the toilet is?? I know there is the black tank flush system (with the connector on the outside), but that doesn't sound like what they are describing.

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Jeff,

The toilet flushing valve is the mechanism that actually flushes the toilet. Mine is a foot operated pedal. If any water gets left in this valve it will freeze and destroy the valve. No valve, no toilet, water leaking all over the place next spring.....a bad thing.

Some trailers come with a spray wand to do who knows what. Actually some people do know what but I choose not to even think about how all this would actually work. Again, if you have such a device it will need to be winterized as well for the same obvious reasons.

I have found that reading all the "helpful" ideas in the manual is really not all that helpful in the end. I have an '06 version of your trailer. Perhaps the 2012 owner's manual is much better.

If you want ideas as to how to winterize your best option would be to talk to the tech at your local Airstream dealer. If that is not possible, the next best thing is to do a search here on the forum. You will get lots of great ideas.

Good Luck

The toilet flushing valve is what you depress to get water to flow into your toilet. The wand is an option that you may not have. Its function and form is similar to a kitchen sprayer.

We just purchased a 2012 International Signature. There is no hand sprayer for ours either. This may be a throwback to the days when the head had a hand sprayer to get the unmentionables cleaned of the wall before dispensing into the black water tank. Our old Winnebage Rialta did not have one either. If there is none, no biggie. Just get all the water out for the winter.

Thanks for the replies. Seems like "open Toilet Flushing Valve" would be more simply written "flush the toilet"

Seems instructions are always written in obscure language. Maybe it helps us feel like we got our money's worth.

Once you can translate into common sense, you will be miles ahead. After all, the book should have said, "use every water appliance you can think of, so that the anti-freeze will replace any water in the system".

Happy travels, and enjoy your new rig. Pat

Use the foot valve to open the black hole. If you still have water in the system, it will swirl down, too. If you have a want located to the rear side of the commode, spray it into the black hole as well.
