1969 GT Winterizing
I am a little confused with the original manual instructions and more current generic directions for winterizing. Here's what I think I should do. I drained the fresh water by siphoning it out (drain inoperable)...then intend to turn on pump and empty both cold and hot water faucets as well as flush out the black taink. If I am reading the literature right, should I then add about 5 gals. of pink RV anti-freeze to the fresh tank, turn on the pump, and draw pink water through both cold and hot water faucets and pump some of the pink water into the black tank. Will this do it? Also, would appreciate any suggestions on the best type of anti-freeze to use. Thank you for your help with this.

Unless you have a hot water heater bypass, you will need more than five gallons of anti freeze to fill and have water issue from all the hot/cold faucets, shower and toilet. Your water pump will fill the hot water heater first which is at least 6 gallons.

winterize
I had the same issue when I got mine. I did put a hot water bipass on the second year, until then I used a aircompressor to blow out my lines paying special attentuion to the toilet since it has small water passages. SOmetimes you can open the water inlet back by the bumper then open the farthest spicket away from it. The disconnect the top hotwater tank line then drain the tank from outside The I had my son hold his thumb over the line ansd I pumped anifreeze in with the farthest (kitchen) spicket open I then closed it and flushed the toilet till good pink camthrew then BAth and bath sink to follow. I used 2 gallons of antifreeze that is traps and everything. You dont need to fill the hot water tank it is so big a small amount of water in it wont hurt anything, Make sure you dont have 1 of thos filters for under the sink it will need taken apart and draind after winterizing.
Good Luck

Sorry Anne, Please use John HD thread as a guide line. The water systems in trailers are basically the same if you look at the big picture. Basically try to get the water out of the lines and use an RV anti-freeze so what water is leftover doesn't freeze.

Winterizing 65 GT
One of the guys in our WBCCI unit has a little ball valve on his hot water tank, and I installed one as well. After each time out, I open the valve and let it drain down. To winterize, I drain the grey and black tanks, drain the hot water tank, and then pour four gallons of antifreeze into the fresh water tank. Then let the system pressurize and allow the antifreeze to flow through the entire system. Pour a little into the traps and voila, all done. I've done the same process for three years and never had a problem.
In the spring, I pump a ton of fresh water through the system until I get the taste out of the system.
Works for me.
Doug
