What's the correct load rating for tongue jack

I have a '60 tradewind, weight #4500 lbs aprox

What should the tongue jack be rated for ?

My dealer sold me a #5000lb but it seems too excessive.

A 3000# should be way more than enough. I have a 3000# electric jack on mine and it works great. You're only lifting the tongue, not the whole trailer.

I think 5000 is overkill, but there will be times when you will need to lift more than the tongue. Remember, you are supposed to hook up to the tow vehicle, then lift the rig up so you can put the WD bars on.

Our power tongue jack is 4000 pounds, and we have a much larger and heavier trailer than you.
