RE: Vintage Jack Stands

Keep an eye on Ebay, I just saw some from a Caravel. Be ready to pay though, They went for over $50.00. I just purchased some like pictured above from another supplier for $25.00 on Ebay.

If you subscribe to Airstream Life Magazine, you would know that these aluminum jack stands are among the items which are commonly overbid on eBay.
Airstream doesn't make jacks, they make trailers and motorhomes.
A set of 4 of these jacks sold on eBay on 8/05/05 for $182.50!
i have an extra set of 4 of these I tried to sell in a yard sale for $5 each. No takers.
Despite the fact that I have mentioned these aluminum jack stands several times in the eBay Watch column of the magazine, they are still often overbid. See why it pays to subscribe? (shameless plug)

They seem to be at every flea market I've been to in the past ten years too. I have a couple of sets laying about, and most of the older RV parts places seem to have several sets laying about as well. They are not worth very much money.

Rog,

I love your feature in A/S Life... it always pays to learn from someone who knows.

Reese Mfg made these aluminum jack stands for a while but discontinued them some time ago. I suppose those might have some value to a collector. The jacks with no name on them are mostly made by Camco Mfg. They have a network of distributors across the USA, including pplmotorhomes.com who sells them for $29.97 per set of 4.
If I were going to buy a set, I’d purchase them from Vintage Trailer Supply (as Terry mentioned). Steve Hintgen, the proprietor, does a great job of supplying us vintage folks…and our trailers…with original and duplicated parts and accessories.

My folks used that type of jack stand. I was the one stuck setting them up when we went camping. Needless to say, I don't like them. I like the kind Airstream used on my '66 Safari, which are not near as big a hassle to use. There must be someplace on the Caravel to mount something more useable. . . just a thought.
