Trailer jacking question

Does it make any difference whether the trailer is hooked to the TV or not when jacking to change a tire or otherwise work on the wheel/axle?

If you have a tandem axle, the easiest way to get one wheel off the ground is to pull one wheel on the trailer up on boards high enough to raise the front/rear wheel on the same side. In this case the TV would remain hooked up.

I would feel safer if the tv was hooked up and the parking brake was set.

This doesn't mean I wouldn't also chock the opposite wheels and use jackstands.

If you are still hooked up you do not need to block the wheels on the trailer. Otherwise, block both forward and backwards on the other side before lifting. Remember: you can not jack under the axle if it is a torque type axle. Jack only at designated jacking spots.

how does one find those designated spots if they are not clearly marked on the trailer???????

never mind my question...i found a good thread on this by tinsel loaf ... jacking an airstream ... i usually dont read the instructions until after i have already asked my stupid question.

That's OK, sometimes reading the instructions only gets in the way of really getting something done.
