Tongue jack problem

I have a 2011 Flying Cloud 30 with a front jack problem. Recently the power jack on the tongue has malfunctioned. When I push the toggle switch up to raise the trailer, it doesn't work sometimes. No problem when the toggle is pushed down to lower the trailer. The motor doesn't labor, it just seems dead. At other times it may work fine for a while, then, if I stop for a moment, it won't work and I am forced to crank it by hand. Any ideas out the as to what the problem is? Someone has suggested a grounding problem, but it seems like it would not work in either direction if that were the case. My guess is a bad toggle switch, but I don't know how to test it.

Go buy a new toggle switch. I have had to replace mine twice. A new switch fixed it both times. It is hard to find a switch anymore that is made in the United States.

Barker Part no 736-0009. Actuator Toggle switch. My Airstream Dealer had the switch in stock.

I had the same issue that you had. The jack was stuck but I was trying to disconnect the Airstream from my Jeep so I found my emergency crank and gave the jack motor a little turn. Then I operated the toggle switch with the crank still attached to the top of the motor. The motor sprang to life and whipped the crank across my arm, lacerating the flesh and exposing a great big vein on the underside of my forearm. Oops.

I assume that since the dealer had the part in stock, that this is not an unusual problem. Perhaps Barker may improve future switches. Perhaps I will not be so careless should the problem happen with my new switch. Good luck. Safety 24/7. Jim

Thanks for the post - I had asked the same question last year to no responses at the time. I'll check out the part for replacement try!
