Stabilizer mod on Sport 16

Has anyone modified the BAL stabilizers so the shaft extends out where it can be easily reached when raising or lowering them? The stabilizers used on other models have this advantage. I was thinking of using ACME style splice nuts with a long 5/8" hex head cap screws welded or pinned to the outer side of the nut. Any thoughts or suggestions?
