Power Jack Question

I am getting ready to tow the 68 Avion I purchased. I noticed there is only one wire to hook up for the power jack. Is this correct?

Mine has two. Not an electrician, but it seems to me you would always have to have a positive and a ground.

Power jack

The power jack on my last trailer had just one wire. The ground return is through the trailer frame. Make sure you have lock nuts under the bolt head, where the jack is bolted into the tongue, so that you have a decent ground connecion..

Power jack operation

The power jack isunder a very heavy load and requires all the good 12 dc voltage possible. If the batteries that supply voltage to the jack are down in voltage just a bit, the jack may be destroyed.
Low voltage yeilds hi amps. Hi amps is lots of heat. Hi heat eats wires.
Yep, just one slow heavy lift. A few RV people have made some wiring changes that allows the tow vehicle to power the jack and do so with the engine running. All electrical devices require 2 conductors, like the ying and yang of things. In many cases the trailer frame is the ground connection. This is not the best method, but it is quick and cheap. Good repair price for power jack motor...$110...
