Power Jack problems again

AS in February 2029, just replaced under warranty our 2018 FC 25FB power jack because it froze and locked up. Now the new one will hardly lift the trailer to hook up the weight distribution system. I was told by the Airstream dealer that the new Jack was 4000 lb I just don't see it. No markings on the jack no decals. Has anybody else had the same problem?

I gave up on the EOM jack on a 2017.
If the dealer gave you a jack with no markings, it either wasn't new or it wasn't 4000#, or it wasn't the OEM jack.
Mine was marked an Attwood 4000. $4000 pounds? Mine left me stranded up. I decided that carrying a stack boards and a bottle jack was a PITA. So I realized that a jack isn't THAT expensive if you shop around, and bought the Husky 5000. Never looked back.

You can always find a block of wood and I had a free bottle jack that I carry for insurance. My 2016 and also my 2019 has the 4000 lbs jack. No problem but as Mollysdad says I would replace with another brand.

Easy as changing a light bulb.

I'd hope if they replaced the jack they would have at least given you the manuals and paperwork with the new one.

Only idea are the batteries fully charged?

The Husky has a pretty good reputation and it works and is a lot quieter than the one I removed. Mine is 7-8 yrs old, zero issues.

Good luck.

We recently replaced the underpowered OEM jack on our 2014 25’ FC with the Husky Brute 4500. No more issues!

Replace the jack. Get one with a ball screw mechanism. It is slower, but smoother. A 5K rated unit is not a bad idea. The overkill Dept at work. Pat

Note, Husky and the high end Barker are available. Price and mfg country of origin being the issues. Since my Barker OEM failed, I went Husky, but it took a week of justification to pull the trigger. Pat

In my totally subjective estimation, jack issues have become much more common than in years past. We had one problem with our OEM jack about a year or two after we bought the Airstream—it stopped working because the grease on the gears had flown off them, so I put the grease back on and it worked for the remaining 8 or 9 years we owned the trailer. The Atwood jack that came with the Nash failed almost immediately. In the meantime LCI (Lippert) bought the Atwood jack line. They sent me a new one, but arbitrarily and illegally cut the warranty from 3 years to 1 year.

Looks like Husky is the most frequent selection for a replacement. I certainly would avoid LCI/Lippert/Atwood. As said above, jacks aren't really that expensive and maybe that is the problem.

In the first post you stated AS is replacing the jack in 2029. So this is going to happen later? I think I have found the problem!!!

Make sure the electrical connections are clean and dry. The ground or return is as important as the power in.

IMO jacks are like tires. Trailer manufactures have been using least expensive which is just barely able to do the job under the best circumstances. When the circumstances change (like the sun came out) things go south. AS has moved to installing better tires. It would be a nice move to a better jack as well.

Actually the jack that came with my As was OK, but their installation was shoddy. Rust prevented the ground from solid contact, which was not obvious until I had removed the jack. Periodically removing the jack and cleaning up the rust should not be required maintenance.

Jacks Galore

My 2018 FC 27FB (purchased in June 2017) is on the fourth jack. Original Lippert/Atwood 4000 failed failed in first month, but I was out of service area so AS replaced with Husky 5000 that lasted for two years. When it failed, AS replaced in July 2019 with another Lippert 4000 that failed in 30 days. Have 3rd Lippert 4000 now.
Next failure, and I know it’s coming, I am taking the sage advice of many others and replacing with a Husky 5000. It will be worth the $300.

Husky in two years - please be so kind as to verify model and what failed?

Any idea at all as to why so many failures? You certainly have our sympathy. If I had that many failures, I would be in contact with a good dealer service mgr or AS JC service and have all checked. Battery bank, Jack ground, frame grounding system, jack wire size, positive connections, although as often as it's being changed, how could the connections corrode?

Good luck with resolution. Pat
