Power Jack only goes up!

This jack is the regular Barker jack and not the Super Jack. It worked fine when I delivered the unit to JC for some new segments and had them do the 27 point inspection. I picked up the unit last Wednesday on a really nasty day. The jack lifted the tongue nicely, but balked at lowering it. After a couple of attempts pushing the toggle switch down, it seemed to "catch" and worked fine for the rest of the hitching sequence.

Today, I decided to disconnect in order to get the free breakfast buffett at the Vicksburg, MS Ameristar. I jacked the tongue up while still attached to the truck and released the spring bars, then pressed the toggle down and nothing happened. I ended up attaching a 7/16ths socket to the 18v drill and lowered the tongue manually. We did make to the buffett, but just barely.

I faintly recall installing one of these on my SOB and there was something about a limiter switch. I don't have the documentation with me, and the Barker website offers only part schematics and no details. I do know that they greased the gears at JC, which I believe requires removing the head.

Any Ideas out there on how to get this to working?

Thanks,

JIM

The switch reverses the plus and minus 12V to the jack motor.

Good chance the switch has a loose or bad connection failing to reverse the motor or the switch has gone bad.

The Baker jack has two micro switches on the top under the cover. I had the same problem one of the switches died. Call Baker and they will usually ship you one for free.
They stand behind their products.

reversing the power leads might make the up switch the down switch. does anyone know if this will work or do harm to anything?

Yes it will work. I did that on mine so I could use the jack until I got a new switch.
