I am in process of stocking back-up fuses for the trailer…
Fuse for the power jack seems to be 30 amp, 250 volt.
But I so far I’ve found no specific size mentioned here in forums…
And the manual for my power jack was missing from my Delivery Case.
So, for those of you who have recent trailers…
What is the proper fuse type and size for the power hitch…
And where is it bought?

I believe mine is a 20a. I've replaced it about 5x. A number of units short out when fully retracted.

Factory fixed mine, but it's doing it again.

It could be a 30a, but frankly, I've put 20a in there and it works just fine. Won't blow unless it shorts.....

Are you talking about the round glass fuses or a blade style automotive fuses?

Mine uses a bladed 20 amp fuse. Yes, they do short out occasionaly so keep some spares on hand.

Greetings Silvergate-

For the '07 model year, Airstream used two types of jacks on their trailers, which one do you have? Double check yourself on the fuses, the jack is 12V not 250V. Your whole electrical panel should be using 20A fuses. When do you pop the fuse? When lowering raising or just any old time?

It's a blade and though there is a fused electrical panel, there is (or at least was) a seperate fuse located by the power jack itself, independ of the fused distribution panel.

Mine is a 20amp bladed (the panel is behind the gaucho at the front of the trailer). The only time I blew one was when my b-i-l ran the jack all the way up instead of stopping an inch below.

There is also an inline glass fuse that shouldn't blow unless you have short troubles.

SilverGate, I went out to check the trailer and I have a glass round 30A 250V fuse in a yellow protective cap on mine as well!

EDIT: Also, my 19' Bambi is wired directly to the battery and not to one of the internal fuse boxes.

That is totally bizzare....I have an '04 as well and if I'm reading you right, it sounds like it's wired the same, yet a glass fuse? How odd that they would have two different setups, unless it was something that had to do with a different model jack?!

My original jack developed a short in during the warranty period and the entire unit was replaced with what I would expect is a model that is on currently shipping trailers.

The old jack has a blade style fuse, 12V 30A. I used a lot of those before I got it replaced. This is probably what you have.

I'll get the model number of the jack if you need, but it lookes exactly like the jack I originally had, just with a different fuse.

Wonder if that was done due to the shorting issue when fully retracted.....

I as well went to the factory and the tech told me, without even looking at it, what the issue was and fixed it or at least fixed it short term. Looks like a more perm fix was done after the fact....now I just need my fridge fixed so it doesn't melt down my shell and my power jack replaced.

It's a labor of love.

Another solution is to replace the fuse with a manually re-settable circuit breaker of the appropriate size. End of problem

um.. "fully retracted"....if that means that you raise the jack all the way til it stops, that is what blew the fuse on mine. My instructions say to not go farther than that last inch.

But mine is an aftermarket I got from camping world.

Silvertwinkie – Thanks for being the quickest to respond to my inquiry…
And you’re right… besides the interior 12-volt electrical panel that in my case lists Circuit #6 for the Hitch Jack & light, Furnace… there is a separate, exterior, in-line fuse located near and under the Power Jack (under the A-frame nose area).
This fuse in located in a gray rubber capsule painted yellow and each side of the capsule has a rubber loop attached… (see photo page 2).

My fuse is a round glass tube that is stamped: S30A 250V Jenn Feng, and measures 6.35mm x 32 mm, (see photo page2).

I suspect this is a time delay fuse similar to the Bussman MDL 30A, but I’m not sure.
I also suspect that if you used 30A, you might not have had to replace it so many times.

My Power Jack in made by H & H Engineering Co.

Rickandsandi – My fuse is just fine… I just want to have a back-up supply of all fuses.

BTW – This fuse can be easily removed to prevent neighborhood kids from playing with the Power Jack and also to slow down those who might be tempted to steal the trailer.

Westfalia – Thanks for checking your trailer and verifying that you also found your in-line fuse in the yellow protective cap under the Power Jack… and that your fuse is also 30A – 250V.

I could not locate this S30A-250V Jenn Feng fuse on the internet.

So the questions remain:
Where can I buy replacement S30A – 250V fuses for my factory installed Power Jack?
Who else makes this fuse and what is their model number?

Power Jack fuse is in gray rubber capsule painted yellow under the A-frame near the Power Jack. This capsule easily separates but is still held together by a gray rubber loop. See photos below:

I have been looking at auto parts stores and Radio Shack with no success in finding this fuse. West Marine, a yachting store, has 30 MDL fuses but the package does not indicate that it is for 250v

and the inner filament is different as noted in this picture as compared with Silvergate's picture. Does anyone know if the Ancor fuse will safely do the job?

I've seen that type of fuse in some of the old ham radios. try WW grainiers. they have all kinds of fuses.

Any 30 amp fuse that will fit the fuseholder will work. A fuse rated for 250 volts will work on 12 volts. Don't use a 12 volt fuse on 250 volts. The amps are the important number.
