Never Assume a Professional is an Expert

Dropped in to a National tire chain and asked if they could repair my right rear tire for a slow leak. They said yes and I asked if they knew how to lift an Airstream. They said yes as they have done it in the past. Ok, I said this trailer has JACK points annotated for lifting...the manager said no problem we do this on a regular basis.
My mistake was leaving the trailer while I filled up with diesel down the street, I should have supervised, since I knew what was required, I even had my internal voice telling me this was taking a chance that not all who work in a reputable business are knowledgeable. Long story short, came back and the store rep said that claims would call me about the bent metal under my 30' and that they apologized for the mistake.
They used my fresh water pan as a jack point. I've written Jackson Center for a repair schedule.

Just has 4 new tires put on our 2014 FC at discount tire. Went into the shop a few day before and explained to the mgr that I would be using lynx levelers, I would not be unhooking the TV and that they could change out 2 tires at a time without using a jack. They did as I asked and all was good. I also watched every second. I just couldn’t trust any shop to know how to work on an AS. I would have done the same at an AS dealer.

That's gonna blow that tire's store training budget!!!!!

The definition of a professional is just someone who is paid to do a task. Then there is experience. Which was claimed by the tire store guy. (Who's ego wrote a check he could not cash) So in addition to not being experienced with Airstream trailers the tire store guy at best fibbed. At worse ……. well there is the liability claim.

I have done the same thing at a tire dealer when I had four new tires mounted.

I just did new tires at Discount Tire yesterday. I stood right there the entire time, directed where I wanted jacks placed, (why can’t we use the axle?) watched torque and made sure the spare was inserted with the valve in the correct location. It all seemed foreign to them.

At least they were willing to listen to you and follow your lead. Too many places try to argue that they Really Do know what they are doing. Better to prevent a problem before instead of having to fix damage latter.

Airstream came back with a quote: New fresh water tank, new pan and new axle. Not to mention travel and time at the service center.
