Need Tongue Jack - Suggestions?

Ladies/Gents:

My AS has no tongue jack. There is still some hardware on the tongue, but I don't know how it relates. (Picture below) There is some sort of ball below the propane tank bracket as well as another contraption to the left of the ball.

1. Do y'all know what these gadgets are?

2. Given what I have now, do any of you have any suggestions?

3. I am inclined to find a manual jack because it seems the electric jacks are problematic.

The circular(racetrack) bracket is for propane bottles. The rear most bracket is for the weight distrubution hitch(should be one on the other side of the tongue also. The little ball is for a friction swaybar. U didnt show far enough forward to show what the end of the A frame looks like. The jack would be located right behind the coupler.

Thanks for the quick reply; I never would have guessed what those two things were used for. Looks like I need a jack with an "A" frame bracket.

My electric jack is OEM vintage and it works fine, but I'm planning to replace it with a manual jack. I have manual jacks on my other two tandem trailers and they work every time, summer, winter, without electricity. It's . . . would I rather have a jack that's easy or one that works all the time?

The jack goes in the round hole just behind the coupler. I prefer a manual jack. zz

An electric jack saves time and effort. When you are setting the weight distribution bars, using the jack to flex them makes it a lot easier to close the latches.

I don't know that electric jacks are especially "problematic" and they're not terribly expensive. But my manual jack does work every time ... so long as not too much beer gets into the "motor" !!??

I keep thinking about installing an electric lifter, but somehow I just don't. It's true that electric "saves time and effort." But not too much of either one. Maybe after this season. Or the next.

You can buy an electric jack that has a manual handle. Best of both worlds

I have an electric jack on my '66. It is original equipment and it is still working. I am actually surprised it is still working. It would be a drop in replacement for that hole.

Our Tradewind had a small emergency handle; the motor had long disappeared. I replaced the original with a new heavy duty manual jack... it works just fine, and doesn't take a lot of effort to raise or lower.

I find it useful to feel what's going on w/ the amount of force I'm applying to the jack; if the coupler hangs up on the ball I know it right away.

As with many things aluminum, to each his or her own.

I have a manual jack from a 2004 Bambi that I will give you. Come and get it. I live in Georgetown.

either manual or electric [i'd go electric] - i recommend that you also use a waterproof cover whenever you aren't travelling.

it will keep the manual jack from rusting or the electric jack from cr#pping out
on you when you really need it.

all the new electric jacks come with manual handles
and the install is a quick 'n easy 3-bolt job; i did mine in under 1/2 hour.

i didn't see the electric connector on your AS but i assume there is one.

After looking at the pictures It appears the lift bracket on the left side of the tongue is already gone. They come in pairs usually.U will get new ones with a new hitch setup. It looks like there is a spare rack under the front also. Someone took the jack.you can buy either electric or Manual. Look around for the wiring. Id put in a manual myself .Ours has a manual,but came with electric and the PO replaced it cause it didnt work. Then after having the trailer a yr I found out why. DEAD CIRCUIT BREAKER. OH well my manual works just fine.When I can't crank it anymore,I will either get electric one or sell da traylor.

My electric seems to be having issues. Last few times I've used it, I have had to tap (read: slap) the casing once or twice to get it to kick in. Seems that there is a dead spot (reminiscent of an old car starter) that just needs to be nudged a bit to get contact. I've attempted to pull the cover but the short wiring doesn't allow great access. Anyone recognize my problem? Is there a fix? I have no manual crank so I plan to keep a jack handy from now on in case the slapping stops working.

I had the exact same issue on my 75 and the slapping and beating on the motor was getting worse. I pulled the unit apart and found that the brushes for the motor were worn down to nothing. The armature was also scored badly. I replaced the jack.
