Jack points, 1989 Excella 32', pics
Hi Folks;
Recent new owner of older Airstream. I learned 2 never break rules very early in my Airstream experience: 1 - always read the manual first; 2 - always check this forum before doing anything with or to my Airstream. Those 2 rules have saved a bunch of headache!
In pursuit of a new set of tires, I discovered bunch of info about jacking, as we all know, and the manual clearly stating there are jack points "just to the rear" of the axles. I could never find such jackpoints. No surprise from what I read herein, lot's of us can't. I wound up going the route of taking the trailer to a tire dealership, and then hovered over them like a nervous chicken whilst the deed was done.
I was totally surprised to discover the tire person knew where the jack points are, and he showed me. In my case "just to the rear" turned out to be about 4 1/2 feet to the rear! (below the water heater access panel) There it was, just as described in the manual, a blue sticker the reads "Jack", and an arrow pointing inboard. The tire install was done using said jack points, and it all worked slick as a whistle, 45 minutes in all, 4 new tires, mounted, balanced, the whole bit.
So, in the hope of helping out folks, at least those with Excella 1000's of the 80's era, I am attaching some pics, one of the AS before tire install (that's the spare on rear left), one of the the approximate location under the water heater, one of the sticker and jack point (a diamond shape on the underbelly), and one of the owners manual, to prove I'm not a nut case, or at least not totally fried.
Cheers!!
