Fix or Replace Jack

Hi,
I have an H&H High Torque Jack that is not functioning. The plastic corroded, the motor got wet, and it no longer works. I took it apart this w/e and the gears look fine. I removed the motor and tested it and it is dead. So the question is should I just get a new jack or try to fix this one? Are jacks pretty interchangeable? If the advice is to get a new one, any suggestions about reliable models? Can I go 1/2 way and just get a new "head" (switch, motor and gears)?

Thanks for your help,

Nick

(forum etiquette question: I just posted an unrelated query under a different thread, but feel a little guilty about posting two threads in quick succession. What is the preferred approach on this forum?N)

Nick: If you’re sure (or not 100% sure) the motor is dead, you might want to consider calling the factory: H&H Engineering, Div. of Barker Mfg. Co. (800) 537-9940 Ext. 314. Ask “Greg” what a replacement motor cost and while your on the line, tell him your story & ask for his recommendation, i.e., fix or replace.
Mine was under warranty when it failed on a 3-week trip (through my fault) so I called them. When I got home I sent it back via UPS and they fixed it- -no charge. In the mean time I bought and installed a manual jack which worked fine and it is now my spare.
The bolt-holes on the trailer should be universal. I had to file one hole just a little to get a bolt to fit. I don’t know which is the best jack on the market but most Airstreamers have the Barker models installed and very few have problems.
Suggest you use this forum’s “Search” function to query on “Jacks” and read what others have written.
Good luck & let us know the results.
