Electric Jack Question on '76 Safari

I have noticed that the electic jack works like a charm when hooked to a 12 v battery, however, when plugged into 110v (no on board battery), the jack will work at a very slow speed? Is this normal? Thanks.

A battery provides a lot of current and maintains reasonable voltage even at high current. I'm guessing your converter is pooped out or you've got some small guage wire between the converter and your jack.

Put a voltmeter on the 12 V wire to the jack as close to the jack as possible, then watch the voltage drop when you turn it on. You might have your partner then do the same, but measure the voltage at the output of the converter. If the voltage drops a lot more at the jack than it does at the converter, it's a wire problem. If they both drop, it's a converter problem.

The convertor does not supply enough AMPS to operate the A frame jack. Being connected to your tow vehicle, or having a 12 volt battery in the AS should solve your problems. It is also best to have a battery in the coach when attempting to operate the water pump or furnace. Both require more than a convertor to operate properly.

And to echo what has been posted above, since this devise needs a lot of power (amps) a long run of wiring is difficult to get that kind of power sent to the jack motor as compared to a battery pugged in near by. The length of wiring may be an issue in your comparison.

Why are you running without a battery? The battery is the source of power while the converter is only the replacement of power in the trailer.
