Question Electric Jack cleaning

My electric jack is beginning to moan and groan. The lower part of the leg is caked with grease and dirt. I feel sure the inside is just as bad. Any suggestions on how to clean and regrease the gears inside would be appreciated.

I don't have the answer, except take it apart and put it back together. Always seems to work for me, but you have to remember - some things come apart very easily, but go together with a lot of difficulty if yo don't take your time taking it apart.

PS - it kinda scares me 'cause mine is an '85 and working very well after only 2 disassemblies.
