Atwood 3000 trailer tongue jack question

Hi -

We replaced the Atwood Premier 3000 tongue jack that came on our 2016 Flying Cloud 27 FB with a 4500# rated Husky 2 months after purchasing the trailer last year.

I finally got the Atwood out of storage and when I looked everything over to list it on Ebay, Craigslist, and of course here in the classifieds, I noticed that the instructions say, and I quote, "Use 4000 lb. Heavy Duty Power Jack if you use equalizer bars between the trailer and the tow vehicle." This advice was in a box labled "Caution Personal Injury/Property Damage" no less.

So my question is, why on earth would Airstream sell the 27FB with the 3000 lb. rated jack in the first place?? Wouldn't most if not all owners use some sort of equalizing bars on their hitches?

They sold the 2017 Classic with the same 3000# Atwood. I switched to a 4,000# atwood soon after purchase, no issues - so far.

Airstream has no idea of the conditions and circumstances that your jack will encounter. So they make an assumption and for some it works and for others it doesn't. When my jack failed I probably could have repaired it but with the cost of repairs and the knowledge that there was no guarantee how long that repair would last, I replaced and updated the capacity. It was really a no brainer to go to the 5,000 lb rated Husky with the screw and ball technology for $100 less than an OEM 3,500 lb. Superjack,

How timely. My atwood 3000 gave up the ghost 2 days ago, while trying to unhitch (fortunately no weight on it yet). Completely froze up, couldn't use the manual thingy either. Replaced with the Husky 4500lb jack (was in stock nearby). So far, seems to be good. Never read the manual, I guess the bars+truck were just too much for it.
