1953 Clipper -- Tire removal/change

I have just acquired a '53 clipper, single axle, with skirted wheel wells and need to change the tires. If I jack up one side on frame the trailer lists to the other side about 30 degrees or so and the tire to change only lifts off the ground about one to two inches to remove the tire. This is dangerous. Also I'm concerned how to change a flat on the road. Are there any suggestions to properly lift a trailer with skirted wheel wells to change a tire. -- thks
