I have searched the forums and found reference to replacing these WrapAround or Wing Glasses. Mine do not require replacement. In my Argosy 26 these glasses are intact but they leak. Anybody have experience with curing the leakage? The glass appears to be set into some kind of sealer or calk which if it could be removed without breaking glass would perhaps allow space for Vulkem sealant. Is this a correct analysis? What is the method for restoring this glass to watertight?
Hi Bert. I have a '74 24' Argosy parked out on a farm nearby. I tried to address the frame surrounding the windows before I finally determined the leak came from the plastic extrusion the windows are bedded in. Congrats for cutting to the chase. I got frustrated as a rainstorm approached so I syringed some Sikaflex 221 along the frame-extrusion-glass junction and then pulled my finger along to pressure the Sikaflex into any space available. It hasn't leaked in 2 years but I'm not betting it's the most durable repair. I'll be ready the next time.
Bob,
Thanks for the reply. What I am getting here is that the leak point of entrance is at the joint between aluminum and the plastic extrusion you mention rather than at the glass to plastic joinure. Thanks for that info. Is the Sikaflex 221 a thinner (less viscous)grade?
Sikaflex is an alternative to Vulkem. Sikaflex has a nice smooth consistency. I like it better because it skins over within 12 hours. Sourcing & mention here and here (and countless other places).
