window seals tearing.

Replaced all the window seals on our 66 Safari, got them from the west coast Airstream guru. That was last fall, since then they have been closed all winter, and up until today. When I cranked each window open today the seal was stuck solidly to the window glass. As I worked my way around each window I was was able to get them all opened without glass issues ( thank you LORD, as these are all frameless windows.)

BUT... every single seal torn a bit where they made contact. Now then I'm thinking this can't be the first time it's happened, so where to go from here? The seals are all good , but I'm thinking I need to grease the rubber with something so it doesn't stick, yet I don't want this to be a dust /bug collecting mess either. Anyone.. what do I use?
Thanks as always for the brilliant answers that are to come...

Spray all the gaskets with "Silicone spray".

Use it to completely cover each gasket, very well.

Then close the windows.

After a week or so, open the windows and wipe the excess silicone spray off.

Do that to the gaskets once a year or so.

Always coat brand new gaskets to avoid the sticking issues.

Is it square or is it "d"?
Is it foam or is it rubber?

It's square and I believe it's foam rubber ( sorry not sure). I wish I would have gotten that advice about the silicone ( probably did and old timers allowed me to forget it) when I installed them... Thanks Andy...

Foam gaskets are not for window seals, nor should they be flat.

How about posting a good photo?

I cannot post a photo, since I am in Hawaii.

But look at our part numbers 45295 and 45370, that are listed in the parts section of our web site, Inland RV Center - The Nations Leading Expert in Airstream Innovations.

Those are the only 2 window gaskets we have ever sold.

Please list your invoice number and we will check on what we sent you.

Andy

I assume these products are sold by the foot. On average, how many feet to do all the windows? And how many feet for the door?

The amount you need depends on the number of windows! What trailer do you have? Door is 16 feet.

Fantastic Fan also has a seal lube for their fans, so the lid does not stick to the rubber. It might also be a product you could try, but if Andy says Silicone, I am sure it will work fine.

The following is the number of feet of gasket needed for the 1969 and up trailers.

small window 7 feet
med window 9 feet
large window 11 feet
front and rear windows 12 feet each
entrance door 16 feet
rear compartment door 9 feet.
most other compartment doors 6 feet

One tube of adhesive for each 25 feet of gasket which is 50 feet of surface application. 25 feet on the gasket and 25 feet on the metal framing.

The folks at Inland feel they serve their customers better in person or live on the phone rather than have an issue with the wrong part or supply being ordered on line. I for one love to speak with them when I need stuff or just some information. Great customer service outfit IMHO! Ed

That is good, don't mind customer service. Hours of operation on the website would be helpful. I will keep trying!

They open up 9 am East Coast time even though they are on the West Coast and stay open till 6 West Coast time making it 9 pm East Coast time. VERY convenient hours if you ask me.
I agree on the customer service. If who ever you are talking to does not have an answer, they get the answer and call you back right away. I have mad respect for Andy and his entire staff!

We are open 7 am to 4 pm, west coast time, Monday thru Friday.

I usually stay later so that I can get a bunch of things done, and not have to be on the computer or phone.

Making some of out parts requires "no interuptions".

We prefer to talk to our customers, as we have proven many times over, that we can provide more positive relationships with them, by simply being more helpful than a computer could ever be.

During non business hours, e-mailing a need or questions works very well.

Andy
