When It Isn't a Good Idea to Keep an Airstream Inside

Extreme weather here on the westcoast. Freezing temperatures a few nights ago; monsoon rain last night.

My AS lives outside. Someday I will have it under cover, but the upswing of it being outside now is the fact I can keep an eye out for any leaks while it is still under warranty.

When I brought my unit home, I discovered a small leak in the bathroom which was undetected while at the dealer because my trailer was in the nice dry showroom. That problem has since been fixed, but I am extremely vigilant.

A few mornings ago I discovered water on the floor under the kitchen fantastic fan. Oh no, not again! However, when I inspected the vent closely, I realized it wasn't fully closed, ice formed on the inside of the vent, melted when the temp. warmed, and that was why there was water on the floor. But I still inspected the floor under the vent closely after the moonsoon. Dry.

Just a thought that may help new AS owners. Of course, if you live in a dry climate, it won't be as easy to detect those leaks. I'd take the hose to it then.....vigorously and frequently....while under warranty.

The way an Airstream is built leaks between the inner and outer skin can be hard to detect. Water will end up under the floor covering and be invisible until you start getting soft spots in the floor. I would pull up flooring. If you have floor rot AS is going to blame it on improper maintenance.

Well, my trailer is not even two years old, so I'm not going to be pulling up floor coverings now!
