Water leak, mushrooms growing in carpet
Hello, I have a 96 30' excella with a water leak somewhere in rear bedroom, it has wet carpet near closet in corner, and found mushrooms growing out of carpet when I opened it up this year, any suggestions where to look for leak?

Pictures and a description of exactly where the water was found might be helpful in telling of common leak areas.

leak
Ok, first off, welcome! Second, I'm a Horticulturist, and mushrooms generally gro off of rotted/decaying wood, (yes other places too! ) such as mulch and compost piles, anyway, they are probably growing from the woos floor, which means your leak is steady/ been there a while. I am not familar with 96's but first check windows, vents and seams, the rear bumper area, and so forth. Pull up the carpet to see where the greatest damage/evidence is and look for a source. Good luck and enjoy the forums. john

There are so many possibilities...
That said, water generally obeys laws of gravity, so start looking for evidence of how high up on trailer it started journey inside.. Possible sources include:
1. Marker Light fixtures
2. Airstream name plates
3. Upper surfaces of window frames, or window that doesn't close/seal completely
4. Loose or missing rivet in exterior skin
5. Leak around awning mounting rail
6. Leaky "Gasket" around 14" square opening for A/C (really a square foam donut, that gets brittle and quits sealing after a couple years
7. Roof vents, including cracked plastic vent covers
8. Bathroom roof vent cover may be cracked or have missing chip/piece
9. Body side moldings (middle and lower) are placed to cover seams in aluminum, and can be sources of leaks through skin seam underneath
10. Access doors for storage or water heater or refrigerator
11. Shower compartment corners or pan
Other than these obvious ones, some of other water sources can be really tough to find.. Good luck!!

The bumper plate is the place with the most leak potential but there are others. Pull the rub rail at the back and see what that caulk seal looks like back there. There are three types of Airstreams. Those who have had a bumper plate leak, those that have a bumper plate leak and those who will have a bumper plate leak. There is a large subset of these that have rear end separation and frame and floor rot.
