Vulkem in Cincinnati, OH?

Is there any place in SW Ohio that sells the stuff off the shelf?

Try a local Fastenal store. There appear to be many in Ohio.

Hey Christopher,
Back in some of the older threads there was mention of a sealant called "Sikaflex".
So when I needed a sealant I looked for Sikaflex and lo and behold I found It on the self at a semi-trailer repair shop. So if all else fails see if there is such a place near you and I'll bet they'll have it. It was about 5 bucks a tube.

Good luck

My local Fastenal carries it in stock, in fact I just stopped by over lunch and saw they had some, so it might be a good idea to call ahead. It comes in several different colors, probably the best for an Airstream application is the "aluminum/stone" color.

As for removing old sealant, it depends on what it is. For most sealants, you could try MEK, which is a solvent/cleaner you can find in the paint aisle at any hardware or box store, next to the paint thinner and mineral spirits and such. But if there is silicone in there, then you might try a specific silicone remover-- not sure what those are, but there are people on the Forums who have used and recommended some, so you might try a forums search.

It is nice to see a fellow Cincinnatian on the forums.

I've ordered the Vulkem thru Fastenal also, but I was in Elizabethtown, Kentucky at the time. It only took a day or so.

As I am out of town right now, you'll have to have a bowl of Skyline for me.

Never heard of Fastenal, but checking their web site I see there is a store near me.

Woody, I actually live in Batavia which few have heard of. Maybe see you at East Fork this summer. I'll have the Airstream with the plastic pink flamingos out front.

What do ya mean? I know where Bataiva is. What's at East Fork?? If you cant find Velkum any Fruehuf Dealer carries sealers used on repairing Semi-trailers will work.

Hi!

You aren't that far from the FACTORY in Jackson Center. It's worth a visit - they have all the different good sealants.

Exactly what I was thinking, its not like its in a foreign country. its just up the road.
You are correct Paula they have all the good stuff. We try to visit the factory at least once a yr. I think everyone should visit at least once.

Well, I'm glad so many people have heard of Batavia.

East Fork State park is the closest one to Batavia so it's one of our frequent destinations for weekend getaways. A nice enough place but unless you are in the area don't go out of your way for it. Check out reviews at www.campgroundreviews.com where it is listed under the town of Bethel, another that not many have heard of.

I've done the Airstream factory tour several years ago. Yeah, every owner or would-be owner should do it. I also plan to return to Jackson Center soon to pick up some repalcement axles from the factory down the street, though I'll probably get there in the afternoon, too late to do the Airstream tour again.
