Vulkem ??

Hello All I have a Vulkem ?? ... can you put new vulkem over old vulkem.. or does the old have to be removed ??? I have the interior skins off and I tried to seal up a few spots over the old vulkem with sikafex and the old vulkem just came off when I picked off the sikafex ... I dont have that many leaks but I would like to take care of them from the inside ... I dont want to mess with a good thing but some of the vulkem has started to get quite hard ..... so replace or reseal??
