Vent gasket replacement ?'s

Today decided to tackle replacing vent gasket. Already had old one off and site somewhat cleaned. Put bead of vulkem around pipe. Placed screen over pipe and then streched new gasket over screen. Embedded a bead of vulkem through over top of gasket into the screen. Finally got the screws through gasket and secured into AS. Questions: The bottom of the gasket is sticking out of the cover. Trim gasket to edge of cover and then vulkem the top and the sides? The gasket kept sliding back up the pipe and ended up about 1/2 inch higher on the curbside than the top. And how the the heck do you find the screw holes? The gasket kept self sealing any holes I made. Thanks. Jack p.s. Will take newly gained advice and tape off area around the base of the vent cap

You can trim around the gasket, and then apply Vulkem to the top and sides of the cover, only.

An easy way to find the screw holes, is stick a needle thru the gasket and into a hole. Then add the cover, that will get you started in the right direction.

It's little tricks like that I enjoy learning here. Thanks Andy. If I had done it wrong, I do have a spare set! Jack
