TV antenna sealing

Hello all.

The PO admitted to driving off once with the TV antenna raised. I'm on the roof now doing the whole reseal thing, and the TV antenna base is bad. Much of the caulk was torn loose. I've removed what caulk remained. So, now for my question: should I just glob caulk all over it -or- should I lift the antenna bracket and put new sealant under it, too? AND, if you think I should reseal underneath, should I use some Sikaflex 221 under there or some grey butyl tape? (My gut felling is the butyl would deform less, and be less likely to squish out when I tighten the screws back.)
