Sealants

There are several sealants used for Airstreams, Ad Seal, acryl R, Sikaflex
(different types), etc. I want to use the proper seal for 2007 Safari.

Can anyone detail the proper seal material and application for each?

Also do you know of suppliers for these materials?

Thanks,
Hank

Use Vulkem or Sikoflex for big seams and Parbond for small seams.

Those are the sealers that Airstream uses.

Your dealer should have them.

When I was on the factory tour a couple of weeks ago they were still using Acryl R on the gap where the glass meets the window frame.

In service they are using Ad Seal on the same spot.

What's used on the section seams now at the factory? My 07 looks like acryl r, but I don't know what Ad Seal looks like.

I am pretty sure my panel seams are Acryl-R. The Adseal comes in a caulking tube (~$4 in the JC store) and looks to be about the same as Acryl-R. The tech did the corners of my pano window with Adseal after masking it off. The job looks very good and the color is a great match.

I don't know for sure, but my impression is the Adseal is a bit thicker than the Acryl-R. I wonder if the Adseal will creep as much as the Acryl-R.

The AS store was all out of Acryl-R and I was told there was a supply issue with it. The company didn't want to sell them small quantities anymore so the store is going to be buying it by the barrel and having a 3rd party fill small cans that fit the pump. Pricing was expected to be less doing it this way than it was before.
