Screen Door Weather Strip

We're getting ready to go on our holiday trip and do some winter camping. Over the years, the foam weather stripping on the screen door of our 2006 19' Bambi had begun to deteriorate, allowing for drafts when it's windy or cold outside. (This is not the rubber seal on the main door.)

So I replaced it today with a self-adhesive compressible, heavy density rubber weather stripping from Ace (see pics)... The 1/4" thick x 3/4" wide variety fits perfectly in the screen door's frame. It took two rolls of 10' each with some left over.

First I removed, scraped and cleaned the screen door frame where the stripping goes to remove old stripping and adhesive, wiped it down with a damp paper towel to remove dust and dirt and let it dry well.

Pealing the backing off as I went, the new stripping went on like a charm. The color of the rubber is a light grey, which looks great with the aluminum of the frame and completely fills the gap. It went around the curved corners easily...and I mitered the corners at the bottom.

With new stripping I did have to adjust the position of the screen door latch strike plate on the AS door frame so that it would easily receive and catch the screen door latch without stressing it...easy to do... I suspect through time as the rubber becomes more compressed with use I may have to adjust the striker plate again...

Violá! No more drafts! Ready for winter!
