Rivet Shaver Sources

Has anyone tried this type of shaver for Olympic rivets? EBay sure seems to have many available. Here is one example. And here is another.

here is where I bought mine... Byler Rivet Supply very happy with that tool purchase. I did not try and find it cheaper, I was looking for quality. All the other tools they sell are very high quality too.

These types of shavers are for flush riveting where the rivet is a flathead and is cut down to be level with the surface. They cut a flat surface and not a convex one like a domed rivet head. The shaver for Olympic rivets uses a special concave cutter not used by anyone else-hence the price. The proper tool has a cage to center cutter over the rivet and is spring loaded in the up position. It also has a precision depth setting so you don't cut the skin. A trailer could be flush riveted in principal, but it entails a lot of extra work because each hole needs to formed as a cone before the rivet is installed. I hope this doesn't upset you we save that for the rivets!

Thanks Frank. Looks like I'm using the credit card today after all.
p.s. Would you suggest installing nameplates with rivets or screws? My old ones we're screwed on and they looked original to the coach.

I am not sure. On my 62 they are riveted. I think Steve aka Soldiermedic has a lot of screws holding things together. If you do use screws, I suggest stainless for it will cause the least amount of dissimilar oxidation.

how about a blog? ... you are ripe for a blog.
