Resealing

I have been on the top of my 30 ft. Classic looking at the A/C.
I store my trailer inside when not in use however I think it is time for a reseal job on the top.
Does the Airstream factory do any better job on repairs such as this, than they do on new construction? I sure the old sealant needs to come off and new put on. Do they do this or just smear on more sealant?
I thought about trying it myself but am unsure of removing old sealant.
I have read the threads about the proper sealants to use so I could search and find that again. Just not sure if I want to tackle the job.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
