removing old vulkem

Anyone know of a good solvent that will make removing old vulkem a little easier? Thanks.

Mineral spirits will help with the clean up. But my experience with Vulkem doesn't have the word easy in it !! A lot of elbow grease is necessary to remove aged Vulkem.

If you found anything that would dissolve vulkem, you would not want to touch it! It would be dangerous !
You might try a little lacquer thinner to help remove some residue, but even that stuff is dangerous.

A heat gun carefully used will soften it and you can use a plastic scraper to get most of it off.Be careful and don't get any area too hot.
Lacquer thinner will dissolve what you can't get off with the scraper and heating. I just removed the fridge vent to install some fans to help with fridge cooling and it worked great. If the surface isn't visible a scotchbrite pad soaked in lacquer thinner just rubs the old vulkem off the aluminum. Don't use too much pressure or you will scratch the surface. Wear thick glove for protection.
