When it rains water runs directly down the back of the square panel covering the water heater area. (where leaves and debris can collect.) It has dripped down in that gap for sometime and has rusted the gas line/fitting inside the water heater compartment. Is there a way to seal the top edge or put some kind of cover to keep water from dripping in there?
Our '64 has the original water heater cover and we don't seem to have that problem - is yours the original or a replacement? Either way, with pics someone may be able to offer up a solution...
Here's ours:
I believe yours would be similar if is is still the original ~

I believe this is the original cover. You can see the gap at the back side where water can just run down inside, and the rust damage it has caused. Can someone please tell me how to fix this gap? thanks, you guys are great.
