Plumbers Putty

Good for plumbing not good to seal AIRSTREAM windows with! PO sealed the windows and practically everything else with plumbers putty. When that failed PO followed up with liberal amounts of some sort of hardening calk. We found a dozen leaks in our TT after a heavy rainstorm. At least we know where the leaks are coming from.
We are in the process of removing the offending material and replacing it with the good stuff VULKEM. It is working. The areas we sealed do not leak now. Simple!

Pictures to follow.....

I hope it is easier to remove than sillycone, one of my PO's must have gotten the case load price on the stuff and to add insult to injury it was silver it takes most of a day to clean off around a single window to get it to the point that it can be resealed.

Funny...Wally thought plumbers putty was just fine on our 59. The only leaks I have are on the front and rear end windows where there was extenuating circumstances. Good stuff. Still pliable after 40+ years.

You can get Vulkem from Airstream inc, Inland RV, Airstream Dreams and many other places including RV parts places. These 3 happen to have websites.

Are you sure you're not looking at RV putty? I had not seen the stuff until I got my Airstream, but RV putty appears to be different than plumbers putty in that it is not as oily, and it does not pull apart as easily.

Not that any of my post makes that much difference in the grand scheme, but I felt inclined to toss out another material possibility.

Someone mentioned Sherwin Williams paint store before. I have not verified it though. Get Lucy to run down there...
