Old dried out gaskets
Looking for a source for replacement gaskets for a '75 Trade Wind? Originals are quite degraded and leak purdee good in a driving rain....
They look to be form fit, has anyone replced with bulk material?

I purchased mine by the foot from oasisrv.com.
It's quite the project replacing them. You really need to remove the windows and clean the old gasket material off really well. I used a dremal with a sanding wheel.
Also make sure you use the 3M super gasket adhesive to put on the new gaskets. Anything else won't hold up as well. I was able to find some at a local auto paint store.

Check out the Vintage Thunder blog as well. Rich Luhr, (rluhr), had a step-by-step process on there for replacing the gasket material.

InlandRV's prices seem somewhat Californish but I did my gasket replacement through them. I also have migrated to checking out Oasis RV first. Ditto on the 3M product. This is definitely a winter project and you must take the windows off to do it. After removing the gaskets with a cobbler's knife aided by some mineral spirits as that job got more complete, I used a circular wire brush from the hardware store in my electric hand drill. I don't think you want or need a real sharp utility knife -- do damage to yourself and knick up the frame more than you want. I think my job benefitted from having the slight steel wire texture added to the window frame metal.

Are you guys using steel wire wheels and knifes on your aluminum window parts? That's a no-no on aircraft parts because there's no way to keep small peices of the wheel from embedding in the aluminum, which later leads to dissimilar metal corrosion and eventual failure of the part.
Yep, the voice of gloom. That's me.

I use brass wire wheels or in extreme cases stainless steel. As far as scrapers are concerned Stainless or wood....

Got gasket
Found the gasket replacements! Ordered 75'. Received then in 3 days! Way to GO Oasis R!!!
Picked up some 3M Super Weather strip. Thinking of trying the solvent that I stripped off the clear with once the bulk of the old material is off.

On with the new gaskets
Finally had a chance to replace a couple window gaskets. Stripped off the old rubber, scraped as much as I could with a SS Scraper.
Used Por Srtip loosen up resdual adhesive and rubber. Worked great, very little to wire brush!
15 minutes for each of the smaller windows.

Azflycaster,
I buy mine by the foot from my closest AS dealer and pay around $.70 lf for the window gaskets. FWIW they are www.outofdoorsmart.com in Colfax, NC and they will ship if you need them to. They are vintage friendly and do not mind special ordering parts if needed. IIRC they have been an AS dealer for close to 40 years.

Cleaning off the old window or door gasket is very easy.
First, pull off or scrape off what you can.
Second, put a wire wheel in an electric drill and burnish the rest off.
Fringe benefit of the wire wheel is that it will somewhat roughen the window sash, which will allow the adhesive to bite even better. Same is true about the door.
No need to get involved with any chemicals.

Taking the windows off and replacing the gastket was the easy part.
Putting the windows back on, now that is where the trouble begins!

Lucky :-)
I was popping rivets left and right on the part of the hinge that mounts on the window. On my model they are partly bowed toward the center and do not go back smoothly.
The trick is to get the ends in while holding the window in the extreme open position like when you removed them. Then lower it slightly, like an inch or so, and hit the center of the hinge with the palm of your hand or a rubber malot. Have to use extreme care....
Eventually I got them all back on without popping any more rivets...
Nice to have all new gaskets. Be sure to hit them with silicone spray once or twice a year.

Thanks for the tip! This model there is only 2 screws to remove, all but one came out easy. The last I needed to use an impact screw driver to break it free. The hinge slipped back into place with no worry, even easier when I got a small step ladder so I could reach em
